Inger Dam-Jensen, soprano, Henrik Goldschmidt, oboe, clarinet and vocals, and Anders Singh Vesterdahl, harmonica, perform 'The Escape'. Henrik Goldschmidt conveys his family's dramatic story in Nazi Germany in the 1930s, about the escape to Denmark and later on  to Sweden. The family, which included Henrik's paternal grandmother, Jella Goldschmidt, a classically educated person and secret poet, and Henrik and his father, the piano-playing doctor Ernst Goldschmidt, came to Denmark in 1938 as stateless refugees from the Third Reich. 'The Escape' gives an account of a quite central and turbulent historical period in Nazi Germany in the 1930s. Henrik Goldschmidt's has set music to his grandmother's poems, which are sung by Inger Dam-Jensen, and we hear music 'in modern Jewish tradition', and which instrumentally describes life as a persecuted person in Germany, and the dramatic escape to Sweden in 1943. These are partly instrumental numbers and partly songs to poems by Jella Goldschmidt.
