Archival recording: Mozart 'Le nozze di Figaro' with Gradus, Bayrakdarian, Tahu Rhodes and Martínez from Houston
Mozart 'Le nozze di Figaro' is an opera buffa (comic opera) in four acts with an Italian libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte. The Marriage of Figaro continues the plot of The Barber of Seville several years later, and recounts a single 'day of madness' (la folle journée) in the palace of Count Almaviva near Seville, Spain. Rosina is now the Countess; Dr. Bartolo is seeking revenge against Figaro for thwarting his plans to marry Rosina himself; and Count Almaviva has degenerated from the romantic youth of Barber into a scheming, bullying, skirt-chasing baritone.
Performers: Figaro: Oren Gradus. Count Almaviva: Teddy Tahu Rhodes. Countess Almaviva: Ana María Martínez. Susanna: Isabel Bayrakdarian. Cherubino: Zheng Cao. Dr. Bartolo: Carlo Lepore. Marcellina: Dorothy Byrne.
Houston Grand Opera Choir and Orchestra. Conductor: Patrick Summers.
Recorded in October 2005.
